What You Need To Know About Comforter Bedding Sets

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Many people do not understand the difference between comforters and duvets. They may end up choosing the wrong kind of bedding for their needs and lifestyle. Knowing about the advantages of comforter bedding sets can help you make the right choice and stay as warm and comfortable as possible. It can also help you give your room the look you have always wanted.

Duvets and comforters have the same basic function. They are designed to keep you warm as they trap warmed air and prevent it from being lost at night. There are some differences between the two, however. A duvet is often filled with down and a comforter is often filled with fibers that are either natural (such as silk) or synthetic. A duvet is placed inside a cover so that it is protected as it is often used without sheets. Comforters have a decorative fabric outer shell that is not intended for use inside a cover. It is often used with sheets so that it does not need frequent washing.

Comforter bedding sets are available in many different sizes. They usually include a comforter and matching pillow covers, called shams. Some sets may also include a bed skirt (also known as a dust ruffle) and may have coordinating sheets and curtains that can be purchased separately. This makes it easier to design a room that looks coordinated and put together.

Dimensions should also be a consideration that you think about. Don’t use the standard measurements for the size of your bed. If your mattress is extra thick it may end up making your comforter look too small. Measure the width and then add an amount equal to the drop on each side. Also measure the length adding in the drop on one side. This will give you a perfect size to look for although you may not be able to find a comforter that is exactly that size.

Since comforters can be expensive you may want to make sure that you get the most for your money. One way to do this is to buy a two-sided comforter. They may be available in sets that are made from two coordinating fabrics. All you need to do is flip them over and your look has completely changed. However, because the fabrics coordinate, they still work in your room’s overall style and color scheme.

Quality should also be a high priority when it comes to choosing a comforter set. Some are poorly made and will wear out in a very short period of time. Look for fabric that is high quality and which will not develop holes and tears after a short period of time. Also make sure that trim is sewed on well and that any seams will not unravel easily.

If you look online it can be a great way to see what is available. By choosing good comforter bedding sets for your home you can make your family and your guests feel at home and cared for while they are under your roof.

Searching and Buying Comforters

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Comforters make great additions to any bedroom simply because they’re eye-catching and attractive to look at.  They come in all kinds of designs, patterns, and colors and are made with materials that make sleeping comfortable, breathable, and soothing all through the night.  But what makes buying comforters so confusing, tiring, and at times overwhelming are the long lists of places to buy them from and the price range for different comforters of different sizes.  You’ve got home depots and department stores selling all kinds of comforters and online stores that also sell comforters at cheaper prices.  How will you be able to find the perfect comforter set for your bedroom without splurging on prices over your initial budget?

This article is going to give you tips on how to choose a comforter and what to do to be able to get the best price.  After reading, you’ll have an idea on where to start looking and how to grab the best deals in the market.

Searching for Comforters

You have the offline and the online store to look for comforters.  Department stores and home depots usually have comforter sets of different brand names readily available for purchase.  You just have to look around, ask the salesperson your questions, and check if the prices fit your budget.  Don’t hesitate to ask the salesperson in charge what materials are used, which brand or type of comforter fits your preferences, and suggestions that he or she could give you. If you plan on doing your shopping online, there are a lot of reputable stores to visit.  All you need is a computer, internet connection, and time to browse through pages of gallery photos and prices for comforters.  You’ll find a lot of selections in websites like Amazon.com, JCPenney, and the like and at discounted prices (if you’re lucky). Ask a friend or a family member where they got their comforters so that they can give you ideas and maybe even referrals to sellers that they believe can give you attractive offers.  Some of these sellers are selling their own brand of products while others are resellers of popular brands that are normally sold at higher prices in the mall.

Buying within the Budget

Take advantage of promos and discounts when shopping for comforters.  You’ll definitely find great designs and attractive offers when shopping during promo periods, so if you’re in need of a new comforter set for your bedroom and a promo is going on at the mall, you can start shopping for cheap comforters right away. If you don’t need a comforter on the spot, you can always wait till the malls and stores start selling home products at cheap prices.  It can be before and after the Christmas season, New Year, and during the “-ber” months when they’re trying to get rid of old stocks again.  You might want to start early or after the rush season though because these are usually the times when stores are jam-packed and lines at the cashiers are very long.

Bedding Basics: From Mattress Covers to Fire Resistant Down Comforters

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

If people spend on average, one-third of their life sleeping, bedding should be a high priority consideration.  Bedding or bedcoverings include everything from comforter sets, bed-in-a-bag sets, blankets, bedspread, mattress covers, bed skirts or valences, duvets, quilts, quilt covers, pillows and pillow cases, and sheet sets for twin (single beds), full (double beds), queen or king sized beds.  These are all bedding essentials, but they only scratch the surface of basic bedding information known by consumers.

Starting with the mattress, a bed should be protected with a mattress cover, which also goes under the names mattress underlay, mattress pad, mattress topper or mattress protector.  Logan & Mason, an Australian bedding supplier, have quilted mattress covers available for all seasons and all beds.  From here, consider hypo-allergenic bedding such as a hypo-allergenic mattress cover, because this will help direct the next bed linen choices.  If a person is susceptible to any bed allergens, there are many mattress and pillow accessories made of hypo-allergenic materials available.

Sheets, Comforters and Down Quilts

A note on sheets: the higher the thread count, the softer and more luxurious the material, and bedding with 200 to even 1000 thread count such as sheets made by Logan & Mason will feel soft and last for many years.

A note on comforters and bedspreads: comforters and bedspreads are a fun way to help add to the décor theme of the room and adjust a bed’s temperature throughout the seasons.  An affordable option to change out bed quilts and comforters without buying an entire new piece is to buy a duvet or doona cover.

A special note on down quilts: quilts are now available in many different designs, forms, and functions.  Quilts filled with down is the pinnacle in luxury.  One of the most “comforting” options available to consumers is made by Feather Mills, a microfiber quilt for single, double, queen or king beds that is resistant to fire.  Cotton quilts filled with down and down alternatives are particularly popular for changing seasons.  As many down consumers know, down feathers hold in warmth, but are lightweight so they can be used in the summer or the winter.

Assembling bed linens can easily be as fun as decorating a room.  Making sure the essentials are there promotes the best in physical health.  Finding the best in bed linens promotes better sleep and better comfort, which leads to even greater physical benefits.  How would your bed measure up?

Bed comforters

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Comforter is fluffier and thicker than the normal run of the mill bed cover. They not only make the bed more comfortable but also make them look elegant. A comforter can keep you warm and change up the look of a bedroom.

The design of the comforter blanket makes it unique from regular traditional blankets. Like regular blankets they are made to be used with a sheet set, but unlike traditional blankets you only need one comforter to keep you warm. There are no extra blankets needed. Blankets can be kind of hard to deal with because getting the right level of warmth depends on the density and material of the blanket. With a comforter you choose the level of warmth that is correct for your situation once and then don’t have to worry about it again. Furthermore, the warmth is distributed evenly in a comforter blanket because of the core of its three dimensional make up. Unlike the blanket, a comforter is made of up at least two materials, the shell of the comforter usually of cotton and the filling which can be synthetic or down. The comforter is sewn into little square evenly distributed throughout the comforter. This design allows the core to collect and hold more air than would a regular blanket. That air is what holds the warmth and more evenly spreads the warmth out over the bed.

Comforters come in twin, full, queen, king and cal king sizes and are slightly bigger than the actual bed sizes so they can drape slightly over the side of the bed. They also come in many different styles. There are a myriad different design styles, colors, pattern, etc. A comforter set sometimes comes with a bed skirt, pillow shams and sometimes pillows.

One method to measure the quality of a comforter is “fill power”. A higher fill power indicates better quality and your comforter will probably last longer. The space occupied by one ounce of down in cubic inches is called fill power. Another method to measure quality of a comforter is thread count. This is the same term that is used in judging the quality of sheets and refers to the number of threads that are contained in one square inch of fabric. The higher the thread count, the better quality and softer the comforter is.

There are basically two types of comforters, down comforters and feather comforters. Down is the best insulation material. It is made up of down feathers in light fluffy clusters. Feather comforters are also very soft and comfy and great soft at trapping heat. There are other different types of beds like cabin beds, ottoman beds, dream beds, Hasena beds and many more.

Whichever comforter you select, make sure you have enough of research to make the right choice.
